San Antonio Food Bank Backpack Program Now through May 9

There some children who look forward to school only because they know they will eat that day. Weekends and holidays may be a hungry two or three days if a parent is unable to feed the family.

You can help a child in our local neighborhood. Fill up a gallon-size plastic bag with nutritious, read-to-eat food to help hungry schoolchildren make it through the weekend. Teachers will discreetly slip them into the backpacks of food-insecure students. Pick up a list of recommended foods at the display in the narthex.

Bibles & Clothes for Children: Collection now through May 16

for the Lutheran Mission in El Cenizo near Laredo, Texas
•Sponsor a Spanish-language Bible. A $5 donation will purchase a family Bible or study Bible for Sunday School teachers.
•Children’s new and gently used clothing will be collected and distributed by Zion’s Mission Team on their May 21-23 mission trip. Collection basket is in the narthex.

National Day of Prayer May 6 Vigil and Service

to pray for our city, our nation and our world.
Vigil begins at noon in the sanctuary with continuous prayer through 6:30pm. Sign up for a 30-minute block to pray in the sanctuary or email the church office. Prayer guides will be provided, and written prayer requests taken. At 6:30pm, Stephen Ministers will be available to meet and pray with individuals. The Vigil culminates in a worship service of prayer at 7pm.

Relay for Life May 7-8 at O’Connor High School

Sign up to walk or sponsor a walker on the Zion team. Luminarias are $10 to place in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Jo Ann Meinert

Bake Sale on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9. Support Rwanda Mission Team by baking and/or buying

On Sunday, May 9 the Mission Team sponsors a bake sale to raise funds for the trip to Rwanda in September. We need donations of cakes, pies cookies, brownies—or whatever is your specialty—to sell after each church service.

The Mission Team looks forward to ministering in Rwanda and you too can be part of our team by supporting our bake sale with your donations and/or your purchases. When you contribute to our missionary’s outreach in this way, you are participating in reaching those who will be touched by the love of God! Bring your donation to the FLC kitchen either Saturday morning, May 8, 9am -12 noon, or Sunday morning as early as possible. Dessert lovers can purchase treats for Mother’s Day, after each worship service.

Sign up in the narthex or send an email to bring your baked goods so we know to expect you on Saturday or Sunday. Proceeds from the sale will go to support the traveling expenses of group members and purchase supplies.
