Prayer Garden
by Kathee Forrest
For a peaceful place to reflect, pray, and rest, six limestone benches are in place on a floor of Bermuda grass in a worshipful outdoor setting centered around a stone altar and hand hewn cedar cross. You can find this area in Zion’s Prayer Garden, just behind the Sunday School modular building, next to the Chapel.
Looking beyond the cross, which rises above the altar, is the historic Zion cemetery and a scenic vista of trees and hills. A flagstone entry to this area of the garden is in the shape of a cup or chalice and will be filled in with crushed granite as the pathways are completed.
A fitting meditation in this space would be the wonderful hymn, “Lift High the Cross, the love of Christ proclaim, Till all the world adore His sacred Name.”.
