Energized by grace, God’s unconditional love, we freely give our lives:
Bringing to Christ
Growing in Christ
Serving for Christ
A Vision of Zion Within 10 Years
We will be...
where all are welcome and invited to Zion’s variety of weekend and weekday worship services where attendance averages 1200 per week. Worship will celebrate the saving and transforming power of God’s unconditional grace through Word and Sacrament.
where two-thirds of our worshiping community is involved in exploring life with God on a weekly basis in small groups and broader educational opportunities.
where we intentionally seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ through word and deed with friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and strangers - welcoming them into Christ’s church.
where we act upon our Christian convictions by giving ourselves away, through service and mission efforts involving two-thirds of our worshiping community. With our financial gifts, we will have twenty percent of our offerings going to work outside our congregation.
About Us
We are a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Lutheran settlers in the Helotes area founded the congregation in 1904, and it remained a small rural congregation until the growth of San Antonio reached its doorsteps. Located in far northwest San Antonio, the striking white stone sanctuary, completed in 1988, is now a landmark on Loop 1604, halfway between Six Flags/Fiesta Texas and Sea World of Texas.
Sunday attendance now averages 661 total at three worship services. As of December 31, 2005, baptized membership is 2,057 people in 825 households.
The Zion congregation continues to reach out in Christ’s love to provide Christian nurture and service to our community and world. As part of that effort, the church campus now includes a fully accredited Christian day school, Kids of the Kingdom, Inc., providing classes for infants and children through five years old.
